Harris Crab House is proud of its role in the local heritage. We were passing through and even though there are many seafood restaurants on the water, Harris’ has its own oyster and crab packing plant (right next door). The crab imperial was so good and the fried rockfish was so fresh. Enjoy freshly steamed Maryland Blue Crab (hard and soft), oysters, calamari, shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops and much more! A traditional seafood establishment situated on the Kent Narrows waterway, offering indoor, outdoor, and dockside dining. Capt. Bill opened the family’s first restaurant in 1981 to an eager clientele, serving all local catch. The property has transformed over time, but has remained within the care of the Harris family since the original oyster house was established by Capt. Billy Harris.

For five generations, Harris Crab House has remained a family business, and has been a fixture in the seafood business on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. In the early 20th century, waterfront property was less valuable because it was not suitable for farming, so many Black Kent Islanders settled near the water’s edge.

From a seasonal operation to a year-round seafood market supply, the Harris family’s entrepreneurial spirit and hard work paved the way for what you visit today. From our docks, you can see the heart and soul of the seafood industry unfold before your eyes as watermen unload the day’s catch. Eating the freshest seafood is not only good for your dinner, it’s good for the local seafood economy! Ordering crab feasts, crab cakes, and all the goodies you love at Harris Crab House support the livelihoods of hard-working watermen like Captain Bobby, a third-generation crabber in the Kent Narrows. Wharf for Ephraim William Burr—who commissioned it as a wedding gift for his son Edmond and his wife to be, Anna Barnard, in 1875—the six-bedroom house was inhabited by the family and their two daughters until 1968. This building is now a bed & breakfast known as the Aaron Burr House. Greenwich Village was previously considered a hamlet, with two-block-long Cherry Lane running straight through Burr’s property. It was later renamed Commerce Street in the 1820s following a population explosion (though the residential thoroughfare still remains primarily quiet and calm today).
